The COCONUT FRUIT
- the virgin coconut oil (VCO) is extracted
from the coconut meat (unrefined,
unbleached, undeodorized); VCO is used
as a dietary supplement also for skin and
body care; also used for infant formulas
- it is also the source of the refined, bleached
and deodorized oils which is extracted from
the dried meat of the coconut called the
copra. Copra contains oil, which is rich in
glycerin that is used for cooking, margarine,
detergent, candles, shaving cream,
toothpaste, lotions, lubricants, hydraulic
fluids, synthetic rubber, cosmetics and bath
and laundry soap
- The remains or waste from the copra is
made into animal feeds for cattle or poultry
(copra meal). It is rich in protein and sugar
but is deficient in calcium, so it should be
fed together with calcium rich foods.
- Oil is used to produce coconut bio - diesel
(alternative fuel for engine) and other
oleochemicals.
- For salad, butter, frying, as affordable food
extenders, medicines, glycerin emulsifiers,
anti - pollutant, resins, esters, toothpaste,
skin - care, sodium lauryl sulfate (mild
foaming cleansing agent)
- Coconut meat is used to produce flour and
desiccated coconut
- Coconut meat is the source of the coconut
milk and coconut cream (used for cakes,
pies, candies, curries, sweets, coffee,
creamer, ice cream)
- The coconut meat is used to produce
vegetarian butter, cheese and yogurt
- Coconut meat is also converted into coco
chips, coco jam, biscuits, candies
